Please read the complete course details before registering. There are no refunds once registered, and there is a commitment to weekly assignments during the course. One student per registration.

Weekly Group ZOOM Meetings are Wednesday January 11th - Wednesday February 22nd - 5:30 - 7:30pm CST
Audio and Webcams are required for the duration of this course. It is an interactive and social course.

Each week I will discuss and demonstrate drawing in graphite techniques and provide assignments.
A required materials and supply list with resources is in your order confirmation to download (not the PayPal receipt, check your spam folders for this email if not in your inbox). This also includes a link to complete your registration after payment - you must follow the link and register on ZOOM to have the link and be added to the course roster.

In this beginner graphite drawing course you will learn multiple drawing techniques that I have used for more than 50 years including methods on accurately drawing in proportion and scale, techniques in using a range of pencil hardness, creating depth and dimension with use of a full range of values, and learning to increase your observation skills.

The important thing to remember is that this is a journey you have chosen to undertake that will require not only practice, but some discipline and positive thinking! Rome wasn’t built in a day; I did not achieve my skill level overnight! It boils down simply to your desire to learn, and your willingness to practice and allow yourself the time for discovery! Each of the assignments in the course are planned to help you slowly build your skill level, increase your observation skills, and most importantly your confidence.

Students must make a commitment to the time and dates scheduled. There will be no make-up time or private consultations.

There is a private Facebook group set up for posting weekly assignments and video critiques and feedback in student’s photo album within the group. Instructions for posting your assignments are in the announcements in the group you will gain access to. Any and all questions must be posted to this group – no private messaging or emailing. The video critiques will be posted weekly to your photo album.

All students will work on the same project assignments issued with the exception of your final project. Deadlines will be set for assignments to be posted for review.

Students will have the ability to record the weekly meetings on their computers for their personal use.  I do not provide recorded sessions. These recordings may not be shared, copied and redistributed, or posted to social media. By registering for this course you are agreeing to these terms. It is recommended that the ZOOM computer app is downloaded for full function of all features.

The final project assignment will be the choosing of each student. A high resolution photograph of your desired final project is to be posted to your FB photo album. The image must not be a copyrighted image but one you take yourself with your camera or cell phone. In this course we are not addressing life drawing. People and portraits are outside the scope of beginner drawing.

Registrants will download the supply list, and registration invitation to the weekly meetings with the link and password. It is your responsibility to save these emails with the information! These PDF files are in your emailed receipt after payment.

Student Drawing Course Testimonials

"Mark is a wonderful teacher. I have taken the beginner drawing and the Animals and Wildlife drawing courses. He not only demonstrates the techniques, but then gives you an honest video critique of your drawings. A great learning experience. I highly recommend these courses."  Donna

"I had hope and desire but zero confidence when I started Mark's beginner drawing class. He is such a talented instructor that in no time I was amazing myself! The class was so much fun, I soon forgot to be nervous and just started drawing.” Carolyn

“Great class! Mark is a very patient, encouraging and talented instructor. Results of the beginning class far exceeded my expectations.” Beth

“Well THAT class was fun! From not being able to draw a stick figure to an amazing detailed bird, we all surprised ourselves! Mark teaches us to actually look at our subject and see the nuances of shade and light in their various forms! Wish I had taken the class years ago. What a difference it’s making in my projects!” Wendy

"I have known Mark many years and have taken several of his classes. He has a unique approach to teaching that far surpasses anyone else. I have seen first-hand those who had never picked up a pencil in their life become incredible artists. Learning to draw has opened many avenues and new media. I can't tell you what a difference his classes have made in my work!” Cheri
