Wednesday evenings March 8th – April 5th, 2023, 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
Webcam and audio are required for all registrants. The class is social and interactive during the weekly meetings.
This class will introduce students to the essential information needed to draw and paint still life subjects and landscapes using the soft pastel medium. Emphasis will be on techniques with soft pastels. Demonstrations will be live during the weekly group ZOOM meetings along with discussion and Q&A time.
Topics covered: fundamentals of pastel, starting a painting, underpainting, use of light and shadow, composition, and using color.
There will be weekly assignment exercises to post to a private Facebook group to a photo album set up for your individual posts. Individual video critique and review for each assignment posted by the weekly Sunday deadline will be provided to each student. The video feedback on your assignments will assist in developing your skills and pastel painting techniques.
The complete supply list of the recommended materials and supplies is in the PDF download from the website registration receipt along with the link to add yourself to the ZOOM meeting roster. You must complete this step and save the ZOOM link (add it to your email calendar). The download also includes the private Facebook group to gain access to (respond to questions when requesting to join).
Rembrandt, Unison, Richeson, Sennelier are brands I will use during the course in conjunction with some use of pastel pencils, NuPastels, and discussion with PanPastels. At least one of the first four recommended brands will be required. In the PDF download the types of papers and foundations are also listed and it will be beneficial to have samples of each type. Hard and oil pastels will not be covered in this course.
Registration is one per available space. There are no refunds on virtual courses as seating is limited and time sensitive.
